The Parting

How do you critique a writer as Beverly Lewis? An accomplished author with more than 10 million copies of her books sold, can only get better. In fact, "The Parting" is her most refined and perfected work yet. The story line flows easily and the details are enough to keep you in the moment without overwhelming the plot.

Based on actual events that occured among the Old Amish Order in 1966, Lewis tells the tale of a great awakening that is followed by a great devision. One of those caught up in the division, or "parting" is Nellie. She finally has a chance at happiness following the untimely death of her sister, Suzy, yet that happpiness is threatened first hand by the inevitable parting. Caleb Yoder wants to make her his wife, but will "The Parting" seperate them forever?

Keep a hankie on hand for the ending as it will bring relief and grace to a masterfully spun tale. The book also ends without the story doing so. A perfect set-up for Book 2 in the series entitled "The Courtship of Nellie Fisher". If you love Amish stories, are a fan of Beverly Lewis, or want a good read that weaves history with the mercy of salvation, don't miss the chance to read "The Parting".
