America's preacher, teacher and spiritual liberator has done it again in his latest book, Power for Living. Jakes charges from the gate in declaring our lives have purpose. He takes time to coax the reader from any mental blocks and does it on the offense by repeatedly stating Do not give up-there is a plan for your life, just hang in there long enough for it to be revealed. Once the reader becomes convinced, the foundation has been laid and the rest of the information builds on and supports that fundamental fact.
Jakes also makes a strong case for asking God why. Depending on who your mentor is and how they believe, you may feel the big question is not for you to ask. You may believe that to ask is to have a lack of faith. Jakes teaches that asking God why, not in the context of a pity party but to learn, is actually the only way to grow spiritually. When you ask him to reveal the meaning in your current distress, you can understand and move on. Not that God will always reveal that reason, but neither is he offended when a true student comes to him and wants to understand the spiritual aspects of situations.
Jakes ending is as solid as his beginning as he exhibits 30 principles to exemplifying power in your life. He is relentless is offering information that is clear, concise, and accurate. Everything he presents in Power For Living is just plain common sense and either you've known it and forgotten, or it's new and you thump the page and nod your head in agreement. You can not read this book and not walk away with several nuggets of defense for the next bout of spiritual insecurity.
It's easy to see why Jakes is loved and revered by his followers. He genuinely cares about the reader, wanting them to succeed because Jakes understands, if you prevail, he's done his job. You can sense his heart is in his ministry, and in Power For Living it is quite clear his purpose at the moment is to disciple those crippled and beat down spiritually. If you are at a point you feel you can't go on, this is the answer. Power For Living will awaken the desire and then get you moving.
